The Bible teaches us that FAITH is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things unseen (Hebrews 11:1). We come to faith when the Lord draws us to Him. We come to faith when we realize that all of our knowledge and intellect is just not enough! We come to faith when we feel that emptiness, that lack of purpose and the guilt of unforgiven sin in our lives. We know we need to have faith in SOMETHING!
Sometimes we put our faith in our own skills and ingenuity. Sometimes we put our faith in our financial security – our savings, our 401k, our inheritance. Sometimes we put our faith in other people – our parents, our spouse, our children. Sometimes we put our faith in a political system or a New Age spiritual system. Yet, ALL of these objects of our faith will fail us sooner or later and we are crushed!
So, what is this assurance that never fails? What is this conviction of unseen things? The Word became flesh and dwelled among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth (John1:14). This Word is Jesus Christ who was at the beginning and through whom all things were made. Through Christ we see the glory of our Creator God. Through Christ we see the ultimate grace as He lays down His life for YOU – and FOR ME!
This Christ who gives us grace through His death on the cross and His resurrection now gives us the ultimate truth – we are saved through FAITH in Him! Our sins are washed away – whiter than snow! We have eternal life with Christ in His heaven! What glory! Christ never fails. We have assurance of things hoped for and conviction of things unseen because God is FAITHFUL, His lovingkindness goes to ALL generations! This is what FAITH gives us!
